Club Nights are designed to give our swimmers competition experience without the stress of a “real” meet. They give children practice in starting correctly, maintaining correct strokes while racing, turning, and improving times.
Participation: Club Nights are open to all Telopea swimmers, from the juniors to seniors. They are a great way to meet other swimmers and parents in the club, whether you are new to Telopea or have been with the Club for decades.
When: Club Night is normally held on one Friday night a month, from 6:00 PM to approximately 7:30 PM during the normal public school term.
Parents: Parents are encouraged to lend a hand in the regular Sausage Sizzle as well as in timekeeping, marshalling and organizing the swimmers. We need your support!
Events: The event schedule for the term is posted on the notice board. Each swimmer selects a maximum of three races for the night and “registers” no later than the Wednesday preceeding the scheduled Friday. Swimmers are then seeded to swim with others of their ability.
Point Competition: Points are awarded for each new swim, and thereafter for each Person Best (PB). The number of points awarded depends on the size of the improvement. At the end of the winter season (April to September), points are tallied and trophies are presented for two age groups – “12 years and under”, and “over 13 years.”
The Emphasis is on Beating the Clock and Improving Your Personal Best!
Brace Relay: Once a month, Club Night includes a Brace Relay. This is a two-person, time handicapped relay with the competition for a trophy running from April to March. Swimmers choose a teammate, name their team, and compete as a team for the full year. This encourages participation and commitment, as well as adding to the fun. The teams are seeded, based on their personal best times, and swim under handicaps (delayed starts) to balance the field. This makes it fun for all, and juniors can often beat the more experienced swimmers. Points are awarded toward the Brace Relay Trophy.
CLUB NIGHT’S FOCUS IS ON HAVING FUN, AND WE ARE CONTINUALLY LOOKING FOR WAYS TO MAKE IT SO.
