Congratulations to Peter Freney

Peter was honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2004 with an Order of Australia Medal in the General Division for service to Swimming in the ACT and surrounding districts, particularly through the Telopea Swim Club.

A much deserved honour, congratulations from the Telopea Swim Club and all your colleagues, swimmers and friends in the ACT.


Peter Freney
 

Peter was the coach of the Telopea Amateur Swimming Club from 1975 to October 2002.  He is an Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (ASCTA) Level 3 coach and a tutor coach for NSW Swimming. Peter has also been the coach for several NSW Swimming squads which have toured overseas including the NSW Touring Team to New Zealand in 2001. He has coached at several training camps for Australian Swimming and was a coaching member of the Australian Oceania Team to Noumea in 1993 and the Australian World Cup Team to Hong Kong and Beijing in 1994. Peter has served as Vice-Chairman of the NSW Branch of ASCTA. Peter was awarded Telstra Swimmer's with a Disability Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000. In November 2000, he was awarded ACT Academy of Sport Coach of the Year. In February 2001, Peter was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for significant contribution to swimming. 2001 was also a busy year for Peter as Head Coach of the NSW Sharks Squads as well as Head Coach of the NSW Cultural Exchange Team to Darmstadt, Germany.

Congratulations Les from the Telopea Swim Club

 

ACT Swimming is committed to recognising the contribution made by the many people who assist the local swimming community in a variety of ways. Each month a worthy volunteer is recognised. Watch this page for the monthly winner.

Les Barclay
 

Les, as well as being the head coach of the Telopea Swimming Club, has provided considerable support to school teams over many years. This year was no exception. Les is also a selector for ACT Swimming. He provides help and tutoring for locals using Team Manager. Over the years he has taken on the role of Race Secretary for Telopea, a role he is currently fulfilling.

Les has contributed to the community through his involvement in in the training (hands on) of local swim coaches.

Also, he has been and continues to be an active member of the School Swimming Management Group.

Les, thank you from the ACT Swimming community for your contribution to our sport and to the swimmers and coaches you so willing help.
